FR Review:
Roundly regarded among the best in her class, Charlotte Barnes creates timeless, thoughtful environments steeped in historical reference. Known for a stylistic melange built with luxurious materials, fine antiques, attention to detail and restraint, Barnes has a loyal following. Each room has at least one extraordinary and memorable feature, be it a pleated arched window dressing, a mahogany tester frame or a chintz-covered dollhouse platform, all streamlined and elegant.
Barnes began her interior design firm in 1993, after returning stateside from a stint in London helping to expand Ralph Lauren in Europe. Once her own home was featured in British House & Garden, the calls for her design advice never ceased. About eight projects are undertaken at one time, all with full budgets. Recent clients include major financiers, the CEO of an auction house and the CEO of a top fashion house.
Product is carefully considered and vendor relationships are assiduously cultivated with the best. Higher quality is encouraged, with auctions frequented or tag sale favored over repro. A Standard design fee is taken along with Reasonable markups. Barnes considers every detail down to the custom lampshades. Clients respond in kind with repeat business as the norm.
Representative Client Comments:
"Charlotte absolutely understands antiques, and has such a good eye that you can pay less for more look." "Charlotte is one of the few people we know that can be both incredibly nice and incredibly professional." "Each project projects the hopes and vision of the client." "It is so chic but also stately."
