FR Review:
A calm and confident designer, Damon Liss creates interiors that project warmth and intelligence, balancing rich layers of texture with a subtle palette. Drawn to clean lines and natural wood finishes, Liss is known for beautiful compositions that blend cosmopolitan gestures–like industrial architecture and found objects–with fine art and artisan fabrics and finishes. Think of natural light reflecting on a wood-plank floor, striking black-and-white photography on a focal wall, and sculptural driftwood artfully arranged on a midcentury console and you have a sense of the approach. A native New Yorker and a TriBeCa resident, Liss has an urban sensibility. In fact, many say that this look makes the most sense downtown (and in the cooler, quieter parts of the Hamptons), but he has worked on projects all over the city and beyond.
After studying at Parsons and earning experience as an assistant for Noel Jeffrey, Liss launched his own firm, Damon Liss Design, in 2002. Before his design career Liss worked in retail and hospitality, giving him A+ client-service credentials. The references we spoke to singled out Liss himself as the design firm’s key selling point, saying that he “just gets how families in New York live.” He is described as “completely down-to-earth,” “smart and evenhanded,” and “a soothing presence on the job site.”
Fielding a downtown office, Liss–who is also a licensed real estate broker–takes on a handful of projects at a time, assisting clients through all phases of home- ownership, from buying and selling to gutting and sprucing. For interior design work, he charges standard markups and generally prefers to take on whole-home projects as opposed to single-room jobs. A young designer on the rise, potential clients are advised to book his services now, before his waiting list reaches Charlotte Moss-ian length.
Representative Client Comments:
“We were walking through TriBeCa, and Damon knew how much each building was worth, and what it looked like inside. He’s an encyclopedia of knowledge.” “He knows to make sure there’s a place in your home for kids’ stuff.” “Contemporary organic is how I describe Damon’s style.” “I’m a little glam, my husband is more conservative; Damon somehow made us both happy.” “He has a style, but it’s all about how to apply it to your project.” “I like that I was very much part of the process.” “It doesn’t feel decorator ‘decorated.’” “Low-key brilliance, he can do anything he puts his mind to.”
