FR Review:
Known to his fans as the “anti-contractor contractor,” Justin Krzyston combines the project management skills of a first-rate builder with the people-friendly approach of an interior designer. From the initial meeting to late-night cell phone conversations about the project, sources say that Krzyston listens extremely well and will take the client’s interest to heart. Clients pay back the attention with trust - all we spoke to emphasized that Krzyston is “the kind of guy you feel comfortable with working on your home.” Colleagues also praised the professional side of the business, saying that Krzyston’s organization is airtight and that he knows how to get the best work out of subs (including job site attire and cleanliness - “there’s no sloppiness or smoking on a Stonehurst project").

Krzyston began his career working for another contractor but, unhappy with the laissez faire attitude towards client relationships there, he started his own firm in 2005. He developed an early reputation for his work on 1920s Spanish style homes, but has recently been branching into other types of projects - including a number of midcentury modern remodels, a new construction job in Hollywood and a cliffhanger in Runyon Canyon. Krzyston mostly runs the projects (about four or five at a time) on his own, supervising a small in-house staff and whatever subcontractors are needed. He also has a side business managing properties, often for contracting clients who have come to trust and rely on Krzyston during the building phase.

Pricewise, Krzyston's expenses, charged as a percentage of construction, fall within standard rates (not the cheapest, nor the most expensive). Clients commend the paperwork and charges as “completely buttoned up.” He is perhaps a bit beyond the phase of taking on small projects for new clients, but is eager to tackle exciting new challenges, especially those that involve design work. For his dedication to his work, for comprehensive praise from references (indeed, each source we spoke to highlighted a different strength of Krzyston's), and for bringing a rare personable touch to general contracting, Stonehurst earns high marks.

Representative Client Comments:
"The paperwork side of the business is impeccable." "He's my first choice referral." "He's very friendly, articulate, and easy to talk to. Not like other contractors." "He doesn't take on more projects than he can handle - never overstretched like some builders." "He was able to lift a kitchen from something middle of the road to an amazing showpiece." "The work is very clean, he keeps a tight rein on his crew." "He's great at managing subs." "He's great at value engineering - figuring out how to get the best result on your budget." "I loved working with Justin, and everyone I've referred him to felt the same."
