FR Review:
Liesl Geiger's grasp of architectural theory is perfectly balanced with her instinct for delivering a comfortable and personal home to her clients. Her projects are full of interesting touches that catch the eye of the casual observer but are laden with private meaning to her clients. For example, in a West Village townhouse, she designed a bathroom featuring walls of back-painted blue glass. On the surface, it's a beautiful effect. On a deeper level, it evokes the client's memories of her California upbringing. For these touches and others, Geiger is respected by peers and loved by clients.

Geiger's CV reflects both her talent and her omnivorous curiosity - a graduate of Yale architectural school, she has done everything from glassblowing in Finland to designing Chanel boutiques on Madison. Indeed, she's the only architect we've come across who has spent time in the offices of both traditional lion Robert Stern and pop prince Peter Marino. Geiger synthesizes the range of her experience into projects that are both client-pleasing and intellectually engaging. She does not consider herself a stylist per se, but someone who designs around fundamental principles of light and space. Though Geiger, a veteran project manager, has been managing her own firm since 2003, she approaches each challenge with the open-minded enthusiasm of a perennial academic. A recent project on Shelter Island found Geiger walking endlessly through the neighborhood, taking notes on the local architectural vernacular, house by house.

Geiger's small Chelsea office (it consists of Geiger herself plus two assistants) is run in a standard fashion for a boutique New York architecture firm. She takes on roughly four to five projects at a time, and is always involved in job site supervision. Markups over construction fall within the standard range, and for smaller jobs Geiger will work hourly. Most of her work is residential, with occasional forays into boutique commercial projects. Most are either in the regional area or California. Clients describe Geiger as "design-oriented," "easy to talk to," and "unassuming, hands-on, down-to-Earth." They highlight her blend of knowledge and intuition and say that Geiger "is simply incapable of not giving a project everything she's got."

Representative Client Comments:
"Liesl is very interested in the way architecture interacts with the surrounding environment." "She's easily approachable, and she always returns phone calls quickly." "She pays attention to the budget." "Though I didn't realize it at the time, Liesl gave us a design education through our project." "I wanted something very 'loft-y,' Liesl was able to take that suggestions and give us something appropriate for Central Park West - lots of light, open spaces." "Meetings with Liesl were very creative, she brought materials for us to look at." "Definitely recommended for someone who is into design."
