FR Review:
Founded in 1964, PKSB Architects is a firm that believes in modern architecture that is informed by the space. Heralded for their diversity of projects and commitment to purpose, PKSB’s designs are always about the use of the building. Form reflects function in an honest way. From converting schools into full “green” mode to apartment renovation and interior design, this firm truly does it all.
Clients include everyone from the New York City Construction Authority, the Allen Stevenson School, and the Puck Building to young families doing high-end loft conversions in Brooklyn. The firm has a studio approach from schematics to construction and has twenty employees. There are seven licensed architects on staff and three partners. PKSB maintains approximately ten active residential projects at a time, and one principal is always directly involved with each project. The firm insists on managing the construction element of each project, and fees are based on an average percentage of construction costs. When PKSB is involved in the interior design portion of a project, the company charges an average design fee.
Representative Client Comments:
“After my initial conversation with Tim about the project, I was so taken with the presentation and how he understood exactly what I wanted. In a word, it was perfect." “We couldn't be more pleased with our home. It is everything we wanted and then some. Tim Witzig is extremely talented, but what I enjoyed most about working with him is that he is also very collaborative and really hears and considers a client's comments, addressing them as he moves forward through a project. I think a lot of his talent lies in developing a very strong programmatic approach to his projects. He also has a wonderful way of speaking about architecture that is very engaging.” “While PKSB does a lot work in commercial and institutional architecture—like the many hotels, schools and synagogues, they have designed—they also have an impressive portfolio of residential work. It is the combination of those two specialties that I thought made PKSB uniquely qualified for our project. There were aspects that required thinking along more commercial lines and others that required their residential experience.” “I've had the pleasure of meeting the other principals at PKSB and am very impressed with them and their body of work. I recommend PKSB wholeheartedly.”
