FR Review:
Designs by Noha Hassan are high risk, high reward, where fearless style is guided by a harmonious vision. Hassan introduces concepts to clients using mood boards, helping even the toughest critic of wallpaper see how it will add dimension, not tackiness. She approaches projects with the mentality of “what would I want/ask/say/do if I were the client?”–building the kind of trust that grants her permission to just go with it. Anything that will add texture to a room, Hassan incorporates. Her work features modern, bold pops of color against clean whites, but just enough to maintain a sense of timelessness. Rather than easy-to-work-with beiges, Hassan likes to balance around a more masculine grey scale, appealing to both women and men. When couples are indecisive about the image of their home, it’s Hassan’s input that has been said to “work like a shrink.”

Though self-taught as a designer, Hassan boasts the career trifecta of financier, fashionista and world traveler, bringing pieces of each into her interior work. Hassan’s success in the London branches of JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs gave her the entrepreneurial preparation needed to start her own business. Innately passionate about fashion and beauty, Hassan developed an eye for design while working with Este´e Lauder. And the “ethnic flair” apparent in her work (think African patterns) is reflective of her Egyptian nationality. After single-handedly taking on a gut renovation in Chelsea in 2009 (her own apartment), Hassan received a bounty of praise and serious encouragement to capitalize on her newfound talent. Though she began working first for neighbors and friends, word quickly got around that she was an up-and-comer on the NYC design scene, soon validated by bigger gigs and substantial media coverage.

Keeping with the theme that she “is the client” Hassan works with a flat rate for every project so that there are no surprises, not even mark ups. She is a self-proclaimed workaholic, continuously asking, “what else can I do?” and isn’t intimidated to step in and oversee or even manage entire projects when contractors fall flat. If given the flexibility, Hassan will spread out project timelines to alleviate stress for clients, but will also work endlessly to make sure that even the most challenging projects–like a historically preserved renovation in TriBeCa for a mother delivering a baby in three weeks–reach a flawless completion. Beginning with the most crucial, Hassan believes designers should be rated on their portfolio, their personality and their pricing. Given that her work exemplifies natural talent and clients say her dedication goes “beyond the call of duty” agreed upon in the contract, it’s Hassan’s presence that completes her ideal scorecard.

Representative Client Comments:
“My first impression of Noha was that she was going to do everything with a sense of clarity.” “I was so impressed by her ability to see potential in any space.” “She is left and right brained: focused and detail oriented with the eye of an artist.” “She will steer you without being too pushy, and when she says ‘trust me’–do it!” “I rarely see a designer who can satisfy both the contractor and the client.” “After installing the book- shelf she had custom made for me, she asked if I wanted help unpacking the books to put on it.” “When the contractor failed, she took over. She was my savior.” “Noha is a great listener and also eager to give suggestions; but she is even better at balancing the two.” “She comes off as easygoing but you can see she is very strict with herself and her rules.” “Everyone deserves to work with her.”
