FR Review:
New York Custom Interior Millwork stands out for its ability to craft like the best, but under much tighter deadlines. The father-daughter team of Teddy Lagos and Liz Molinari treats every job with precision and respect, whether it calls for kitchen cabinetry, office built-ins, spiral staircases, doors, pocket shades, moldings, casings, trims or the whole lot. NY Custom’s “quick turnaround,” however, should not be read as “rushed”—every inch carved comes with the company’s (figurative) seal. No matter who touched it last on the assembly line, either Teddy or Liz will always ensure in person that what’s installed is what was promised.
In 1966, Teddy opened NY Custom as a showroom but soon transitioned the space to meet the high demand of industry insiders looking for bespoke pieces. His first clients recall watching Liz grow up in the workshop over the years. Today, those same clients remain the shop’s most loyal and look forward to working side by side with both Teddy and Liz. They talk optimum material choices over cappuccinos in “old-school” Teddy’s office while “open-minded” Liz (always in heels) mans the crew of 48 down on the floor.
While NY Custom remains traditional in its craftsmanship, its forward-thinking a la-carte ordering system ensures flexibility for any budget. Still, since NY Custom’s forte are 6,000 square-foot uptown apartments, jobs usually finish at around $3 million. Commercial work by NY Custom falls in the same demographic, with projects completed for Smith and Wollensky, British Airways First Class, and Yankee Stadium.
Representative Client Comments:
“Liz wants to push the envelope; Teddy wants to maintain his legacy. What results is a mutual desire for perfection.” “When we’ve got a huge project and a tight deadline and need to sub out, we call Liz’s crew—they’re the only ones we trust to execute to our standards.” “Compliant, sensitive to specific needs, adaptive and the best for expediting under pressure.” “Their concern for perfecting the end results has nothing to do with personal liability—it’s all about the client's satisfaction.” “I never have to worry about a client receiving mediocre work when I hire New York Custom.” “Their knowledge of materials makes it so I’ve never been compelled to go anywhere else.” “I will not accept a job that entails woodworking unless I can get New York Custom to do it.”
