Todd Fox proudly calls his contracting company a boutique business, a claim fully supported by clients who haven’t found his level of care anywhere else. Keeping his agenda to just two or three projects a year enables Fox to spend every day on the job site, plus time to provide maintenance check-ups years after a home is completed. Though patient and mild-mannered, Fox is known to treat each home as if it were "his own child" and is very protective of the custom work he produces. Clients say that he’ll question even the most distinguished subcontractor’s blueprints, guaranteeing that no one takes any shortcuts. While this asks a lot from those he works with, it ensures the highest quality, and all admit that they don’t mind "working harder" for Fox. Clients praise this tactic of risk management as well because Fox always has several solutions in mind, all considering time and budget, and never makes assumptions about what the client would want.
Fox comes from a family of contractors, and made contracting a fourth-generation trade when he started T.R. Fox Contracting in 2003. Aside from a couple of dedicated site supervisors and labor crew, Fox hires subcontractors within his “strong, high-end network.” Inside some of Manhattan’s elite residencies Fox has installed custom steam showers, home automation systems, roof decks, floating staircases, and 40-foot-long glass walls. That being said, his work is not always the cheapest, but his meticulous nature and seamless workmanship keep the bid invitations coming in. The only drawback to hiring Fox is that he doesn’t like to work outside the city, but whenever his clients need work done in the area he’s their first call.
