FR Review:
Michael Glynn is a veteran with an encyclopedic knowledge of Northeastern architecture at his command. Having spent years traveling between Boston, DC, and New York, working on everything from historic preservation to taming McMansions, he has developed an instinctive feel for buildings and can "read" them at a glance. Glynn has a ready command of materials and methods, an asset on any project. Stylistically, his work often nods to history, but “history” could range anywhere from classic traditional to midcentury modern - notable projects have included houses by Paul Rudolph, Springwood (FDR’s Hyde Park residence), and the Castle House by Ulrich Franzen. In all contexts, Glynn’s work focus is more on fundamental concerns - space, light and comfort - then decorative flair.

Glynn's career started in construction, eventually moving into preservation, and then residential architecture. One of his earlier positions was working for one of the biggest names in design - Thierry Despont. After working on some of the highest of the high end projects, he eventually struck out on his own in 1991. A strong individualist with a distinct perspective and a reputation for honesty, Glynn prefers to operate with a lean staff and direct all aspects of the project himself. His clients include everyone from the Henry Clay Frick Foundation to the National Park Service to private clients up and down the Eastern seaboard. Fees are charged on a percentage, within a standard range.

Representative Client Comments:
"Michael has a lot of integrity, he's a very principled architect." "I was impressed with how much he knew about the history of architecture in general, but also the local history, specific building styles that only existed for a decade or so." "I trusted Michael to be completely honest with us - he speaks his mind and knows what he's talking about." "A very creative "Michael was able to find us old glass windows for our house - at first I didn't know what difference it would make, but when they were installed, I was completely blown away by their beauty."
