FR Review:
An interior designer and citizen of the world, Michele Safra offers clients high taste and a global palette. Born in Milan to an interior designer mother, Safra had a somewhat glamorous pan-European upbringing, acquiring influences and languages along the way (we lost count at Portuguese). Her aesthetic is not driven by any one period or style, but by an appreciation for quality: this is someone who can separate the finest from the merely fine. Known as a “listening designer,” Safra is praised for taking a client's personal style and elevating it gracefully.
Interestingly, Safra's first career was in finance, but she eventually pivoted to design, graduating from the NYSID in 2001. Her early projects were in collaboration with noted Brazilian designer Joao Mansur, often working for expats. Safra’s own globetrotting background makes her well suited to international clients, or clients with international taste. One recently asked for a Moroccan sitting room, but her husband wanted something Brazilian–Safra is one of the few designers qualified to bridge that particular gap. Still, most clients connect with her personality, not her passport. They describe her as “extremely positive,” “fashionable, energetic and warm, a pleasure to shop with,” and “so authentic" (we would agree).
Safra focuses on only one project at a time. She structures her pricing with an emphasis on the design fee, while charging a lower markup on product. Hourlies are eschewed. References say she is “easy to talk to about budgets” and a reassuring presence in the midst of renovation stress. For her steady hand, charm and style, Safra is hailed by clients as a “wonderful companion for the journey.”
Representative Client Comments:
“She has such positive energy.” “We worked very closely together on our place in Miami, but when it was time for our second project in New York, I trusted her so much I basically just said ‘do whatever.’ It was even better than Miami!” “She worked around what I wanted for the family - a huge oval where everyone could sit for holidays and talk.” “Probably one of the most authentic people I’ve ever met.” “I didn’t want something that felt ‘decorated.’ Michele understood that.” “I wanted louder prints, my husband wanted things that were more subdued. Michele was able to find wallpaper that perfectly balanced the two.” “The first thing she asked about was budget, which put my mind ay ease.” “Michele is very sophisticated, very glamorous. I loved shopping with her.”
