FR Review:
Villalobos Desio creates luxurious interiors with a storyteller’s attention to detail. A partnership between Alberto Villalobos (originally from Colombia) and Mercedes Desio (originally from Italy), the pair specializes in helping Latin American and European clients set up a pied-a`-terres or second homes in Manhattan. Their linguistic and cultural fluency makes them the perfect team for this endeavor, though they’ll work for native New Yorkers as well. Stylistically, their work is warm, inviting, and fashionable. They specialize in showcasing a client’s collection, using neutrals to highlight distinct artworks and objects. Villalobos and Desio also relish the challenge of finding unique treasures–pieces that reflect the client’s personal history in a clever way.
Prior to design, both Villalobos and Desio studied business—a background that gives them a solid command of the practical side of any project. After leaving the finance world, they met while enrolled together at the New York School of Interior Design and formed their eponymous firm soon after graduating in 2008. Together, they handle all details of their projects, with a bookkeeper on hand to manage paperwork. Most projects are in Manhattan for more established families, with some recent excursions to Florida. Villalobos and Desio charge a design fee and a markup that falls in line with industry standards. Clients, especially those setting up a second home in the U.S., praise their “good taste and original ideas.”
Representative Client Comments:
“It seemed that they knew better than myself what I had in mind.” “They have a vast knowledge of what the market offers and they are always at the vanguard with any new expression of art.” “We had many conversations during the project, since we like to get involved in the projects, as clients.” "It ended up being a more ambitious project in terms of time and budget, but a lot of it had to do with the fact that we were so pleased with the look and feel of the place that we all became in love with the whole project.” “I said to them that I wanted a corner all for myself, and from there they created that little lovely—space so comfortable and cozy!”
