FR Review:
Clients and peers are consistently impressed with Christopher Maya’s dedication, his skillful and comprehensive approach, and his designs of timeless appeal. Noted for their finesse, Maya’s well-integrated rooms are a blend of tailored, historically referenced, understated elegance—classically based, with a touch of Jean-Michel Frank. There is a certain easy rhythm to the work, with loose weave cottons and aged leather resting against calming, handsome frameworks. He also earns praise for his ability to tease depth out of color, pairing similar shades to create fetching tonal effects. Maya works best when he can march to the beat of his own drum–he prefers to earn clients’ trust and respect early on, then execute the project himself with an impeccable attention to detail. A professional who works best with other professionals, references say that his project management is top-shelf.

Maya began his design career as a set designer for print, television and film. From there he segued into interior design, working for Jed Johnson for several years while attending the Parsons School of Interior Design (an all-around over-achiever, he also went through the Merrill Lynch training program). In 1998 Maya established his firm, which is small by industry standards, but said to be extremely efficient and accommodating, “making the process actually enjoyable.” He manages projects both large and small, from Manhattan apartments and townhouses to estates in Connecticut, Westchester, Long Island, New Jersey and beyond. Recent work has found him on Duck Pond Road in Locust Valley. Clients say that Maya is highly skilled at architectural detailing, which he will take on for an additional hourly rate. Product markups are standard, as are antique fees. Maya is highly regarded by clients and often recommended.
