FR Review:
Mark D. Sikes is crafting a burgeoning design showstopper which embodies and intertwines the highest resolution of classical structure and fresh style. He considers the entire lifestyle of every client and places it in a set of gracious, arching lines. His blog, markdsikes.com, seems to be the work of a man on a mission of exploration and inspiration—with large, white, Greek-Revival homes of yesteryear serving as the backdrop for the most elevated refinement of all-American chic. Sikes’s interiors are effortlessly glamorous, creating both zing and calm. The neutral rooms have specificity of detail in layers of texture and dashes of color, making them playful yet serene. Certainly no stranger to color, there are also bedrooms full of flowing chintz, but with the most tailored and elegant ease. In business for himself only since 2011, Sikes has all the makings of an emerging master.

The only interior designer to help run a nationwide merchandising complex, Sikes did visual merchandising and store design for fifteen years at Gap, Banana Republic and Pottery Barn, grooming crackerjack teams of in-store designers. His attention to detail rivals that of most investment bankers—many of whom comprise his client roster. A dedicated businessman with a degree in economics, he works holistically , and work he does, as he returns calls and emails immediately–day, night or weekend. While most of his hours are dedicated to interior design, he also dips into fashion, which broadens and informs the lines of his upholstery, many of which seem to be inspired by feminine curves. He has collaborated with Soane–the last surviving rattan workshop in Britain–in creating an exquisitely sophisticated curvilinear line. Each of Sikes’ design projects is fetchingly glamorous and classy with strokes of joy.

While based in LA, Sikes is successfully bi-coastal, completing several New York projects each year. While working with a “healthy budget,” he very much incorporates the client’s current inventory, “making it work.” Limiting the number of projects to about eight at a time, Sikes is the primary client contact. Pricing is somewhat under standard, making the value very strong. Sikes celebrates American style icons on his website, embodying the spirit of lifting those around him. Clients feel this same rush of excitement when working with Sikes, feeling uplifted in a transformative lifestyle.
