FR Review:
This third-generation builder is widely considered the “best of the best” of Connecticut and Westchester residential builders. With a project management corps loaded with top-brass talent who could be running their own first-class contracting companies and a brutally honest estimating department, Hobbs Inc. is wholly equipped to tackle its average $5 million jobs. At the project’s completion, the firm can dispatch an estate maintenance group to clean gutters, change screens and perform general change-of-season chores for a monthly fee. It also fields a small jobs division.
Brothers Ian and Scott Hobbs now helm the company, established in 1954 by their grandfather. Lifelong New Canaanites, Ian and Scott first attended Johns Hopkins and Duke, respectively. They then received their MBAs from Columbia and assumed the mantle of the venerable family enterprise from their father, Michael, in 1998. The duo coordinates a staff of 70, including a full-time safety official and crews of trade professionals for all the finish surfaces and hardscapes. While Hobbs Inc. may appear to cost more up front, area architects insist it “will save money in the long run” on big-ticket projects.
Representative Client Comments:
“You pay for the firm’s identity. But it’s better at estimating than anyone.” “Professional, thorough, comprehensive and helpful. All Hobbs’ project managers are good.” “Strong management and administrative support for all projects. Principals actively involved. Depth of stable subcontractors.”
