FR Review:
Aman & Meeks are focused on elegant juxtaposition–few firms can find the perfect harmony between disparate elements as well as Jim Aman and John Meeks. Two veterans with deep aesthetic knowledge, they can pull off complicated looks–warm minimalism, lively mid-century, vibrant transitional–effortlessly. In all cases, there is a charming interplay of color, comfort and wit–the tailored masculine look of a quilted leather Frette bed covering is offset by a vase of purple flowers, while a vintage eye chart adds a smile. Even in more traditional milieux, provocative contemporary painting creates a spark without breaking the spell. All is done with the client’s taste as the starting (and finishing) point.
Before starting Aman & Meeks in 2015, both Aman and Meeks had a decades-long partnership with another firm, and they can “read each other’s minds.” Both are lifelong design professionals, Aman having put in a long stint working under Ralph Lauren, Meeks growing up in a family of furniture designers and experience in wedding fashion. Both, however, collaborate on every project, and it’s a synthesis of their unique styles that leads to the firm’s eclecticism.
Projects are often large in scope for well-established clients. Aided by a staff of two, many of their jobs entail unique custom work and significant antiques. The firm charges an initial design fee and a markup on product. Recent projects include several homes in Manhattan, ranging from a spacious apartment in the Pierre to a townhouse on the Upper West Side. Elle Decor A-List 2016.
