FR Review:
Tom Scheerer has mastered the art of relaxed elegance—his rooms are as lovely to look at as they are to live in. The designs have a tailored crispness, and enticing textures, sumptuous tones and moments of joyful flourish speak to a deeper substance. Diligent and clear in purpose, Tom Scheerer is as particular about his clients as he is about his designs. This works to the advantage of both, as his supporters claim he can “read their minds”–inherently understanding their lifestyles and design interests. Mixing the seriously chic with closet finds and crafted custom pieces, Scheerer creates design amalgams with ease and panache. Restrained visual flows are punctuated by distinct pieces of personality that function beautifully. This may include the juxtaposition of a white laminate Saarinen tulip table with a Victorian e´tage`re and wicker attic chairs.

After graduating from the Cooper Union with a degree in architecture, Scheerer formed a partnership with Jeffrey Bilhuber. In 1995 he established his boutique decorating firm, which has recently completed projects in Manhattan, the Hamptons, Nantucket, Aspen and Harbour Island (where he also owns a home). Of particular note was the extremely well-conceived and well-received renovation of the Little Club at Lyford Cay with an incredible tented ceiling and sophisticated bamboo details. Scheerer also designed several spaces at Piping Rock, including the exquisite Winthrop Room. Sources describe him as “a relaxing presence, really wonderful to talk to and work with.”

Scheerer tends to only take on projects where he truly finds inspiration—this doesn’t always necessitate a large budget, but often entails one. Clients tend not to have cost on the forefront of their minds, hiring Scheerer for his taste, editing skills and resources. His firm works with a design fee and retail on products. Approaching each project with design insight and acumen, the respected Scheerer finds that his clients often become friends. HB Top Designers. Elle Decor A-List. AD 100 2018 & 2019.
