FR Review:
Doreen Chambers has found her niche within a new wave of clients searching for “tighter traditional” - a look you’ll find in the designer’s own home. Young families and mature couples alike (mostly living in New York and Fort Lauderdale, where Chambers also resides) love when she indulges in what she’s naturally drawn to: luxurious silks and wallpapers, custom finishes and rich colors–all but the dated “frills.” The final look is a cleaner take on the classics; relaxed, refined and with a touch of elegance.
A former model from London, Chambers moved to the US and was offered the position of executive assistant to the CEO of Estee Lauder, and then Donna Karan Company. While her time in the latter’s home goods division certainly made her more aware of residential design as a profession, it wasn’t until she worked under the legendary Peter Marino that Chambers truly witnessed the impact that authentic, intentional interiors could have on a person’s quality of life. She completed her studies at NYSID and established her own firm in 2001. Given a small office of three, clients can expect Chambers onsite from concept to completion; whatever isn’t done in-house is taken care of by what sources call an “award-winning stable of suppliers.”
Chambers charges a moderate hourly rate with a five-hour minimum for redecorating/design consulting services. For full-on renovations she charges a standard design fee for the proposed project along with the standard mark-up on net purchases. Noted for including the finest finishes in all she does, Chambers has adopted the meaningful confidence of Marino, but emerged with her own signature finesse.
