FR Review:
Hailed for his cool, clean, sophisticated rooms in cohesive colors, Glenn Gissler is equally noted for being hot on design details. It is said that nothing escapes the notice of this consummate "finisher." Sources report that Gissler goes out of his way to understand clients' needs, examining their lifestyles and interests and educating them throughout the process. Knowledgeable about antiques and passionate about design history, Gissler places objects with historical significance in new contexts. Clients feel privileged to work with Gissler, whose Midwestern roots make him "appealing" and "approachable."
Before striking out on his own, Gissler worked with Rafael Vinoly and Juan Montoya. While primarily an interior designer, Gissler has a degree in architecture from RISD and often designs and supervises complete renovations. Projects range from small to large apartments in the city to houses in the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Westchester and Florida. Clients range from first-time homeowners to curators' with apartments full of fine art. Most clients continue to seek this designer's advice well after the project is formally completed, and very often hire him again.
A standard design fee is charged and the firm then works at a reasonable percentage over net. Oversight fees run in the standard range. Any issues (all small) are reportedly handled very professionally and with Gissler taking full financial responsibility. Living rooms generally are in the $200,000+ range.
Representative Client Comments:
"While my architect was only so-so, and my contractor left me high and dry, Glenn was a dream." "Glenn's designs and his ways of thinking are good for a lifetime. " "Glenn distinguished himself by asking really good questions about how we lived and worked, not about which Louis we preferred." "He can make objects with great historical significance dance with purchases from Pottery Barn." "He's incredibly talented, but I found him somewhat unavailable." "His subs are of the very best quality." "Good work, but it took longer in the design phase than I would have liked." "I have taken Glenn's furniture and designs to four larger apartments and a house (which I renovated around his designs, and which sold over the asking price when I needed to move)." "Good, solid work. Clean lines, and thoughtful modern style." "He kept the rooms open enough for us to enjoy the luxury of space." "I don't know how he did it, but he took my sketchy concept and translated it into an apartment of clarity and beauty."
