FR Review:
No one embarks upon a project with Peter Gluck lightly. To do so is to make a clear commitment to building a unique Modern edifice to be admired and noticed. Museum groups will visit. Gluck brings an unflinchingly crystalline view to each project, making it an intellectual pursuit of the highest caliber. Stylistically, the forms are sculptural, sleek, and geometric, with Japanese influences. Interestingly, there is also a strong commitment to affordability--in the use of materials and in the relatively low architectural fees--which is fundamental to the firm's mission.
A graduate of the Yale School of Architecture, Gluck spent a few years in Japan before opening his firm in 1972. The main focus is in institutional work (a day care center in East Harlem, a charter school in the South Bronx) and affordable housing ($160/square foot housing in Aspen). But Gluck will work with a lucky few each year on new residential properties. A holistic approach is taken, with the firm handling all aspects of design, from interior decor to landscape planning.
