FR Review:
Masters of nearly-forgotten techniques, Jim Boorstein and David Porter of Traditional Line are “top-drawer” in restoration and preservation. Admirers say they “create magic” while resuscitating museums, private residences and public buildings in Manhattan. Their astonishing talents include refinishing and restoration of complex woodworking details as well as reproduction of panels, mantelpieces, stairways and period hardware. The firm even does furniture restoration. Traditional Line’s extensive knowledge and skill can be applied to modern spaces as well as landmark houses and apartments.
Originally a sculptor, Boorstein shaped the firm in 1984 after completing the restoration of the New American period rooms at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Clients remark that Traditional Line’s twenty craftspeople are “truly artisans” and are always mindful of the client’s space. Customers praise the firm’s work, but note that if there’s work to be done that’s not attached to restoration, you might want to resolve it first. At any one time, Traditional Line will take on two sizeable restoration projects and numerous smaller projects.
