FR Review:
Classic Sofa occupies a compelling sweet spot—a modern, technically savvy upholstery company that is also fluent in the Old World techniques of the trade. The firm has a long history in New York, though its current incarnation is a bit of a reboot: Blake Anding has taken the helm and streamlined the company's operations out of a Bronx factory and showroom. Classic offers an expanded line of roughly 80 pieces (including the Italian-inspired ‘Bugatti’ line and the transitional ‘Bolero’ series), and is said to be “amazingly adept” at altering their existing models or creating new ones from scratch. When we spoke to references, including a few blue-chip designers, praise was focused around the customization process—the service (“so friendly”), the timing (“faster than any other quote”) and the quality (“it’s up there”). A modern production line allows the company to compete on turnaround time (most pieces can be done in ten days with a 20 percent upcharge) without skimping on the details, like hand-tied springs. For its contemporary approach to service melded with a traditional understanding of the craft, Classic Sofa is rapidly finding itself back on the shortlist of the city’s elite.
Representative Client Comments:
“I can draw them a picture of a sofa and they do it.” “I use them solely for custom furni- ture. My other upholsterer is 40 percent more in price and Classic is just as good!” “They even traveled to my client’s home to clean a sofa they didn’t stain.” “What you see is what you get, with fast service but limited choices.” “If there is an issue they are really good about fixing it.” “Expedient and responsive to quote requests.” “Pleasant about changes to the standard fare. Great product.”
