FR Review:
Keith Langham’s motivating factor is fun. And the way Langham has fun is to make the world stop and gasp (ever so politely) at his interiors. While this form of entertainment can take many different forms—from outrageously oversized bucolic interiors to excessively embroidered hallways to tie-dye curtains floating in the wind—Langham is dedicated to creating masterpieces. The Alabama-raised Langham began favoring a stylistic English-toned sensibility in the 80s—first at Parsons and FIT, and then with Mark Hampton and Irvine & Fleming. After he started his own firm in 1990, the creative energy grew exponentially. While he can be humble with clients, he has worked with some of the most fabled, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who said to him, “You have a sorcerer’s eye. How lucky I am to be a beneficiary.” While Langham is open to new clients and can keep to a budget, most budgets tend to be capacious.
The back office is quite large and reportedly strong, with most clients who demand Langham’s personal eye generally satisfied with his accessibility. Supporters say that he is very demanding of himself and of the quality of his work. While he may willingly use less-expensive fabrics, they are always cut and sewn to exacting specifications. Strong primary colors, saturated cashmeres, and exquisite trims are usually part of the program.
The firm charges a standard design fee, a percentage over retail for products, and hourly oversight fees. Patrons strongly recommend Langham for potential clients with significant and once-in-a-lifetime projects. Elle Decor A-list. AD 100 2012, 2014.
Representative Client Comments:
“I feel privileged to work with Keith. In time, I feel that he will be recognized as one of the world’s legendary designers.” “He is a control freak and can be very adamant about certain choices. But I trust his taste.” “If you draw a line in the sand, he will flex and do it your way.” “Even when it’s stressful, he makes the process fun for his clients.” “He can do less-expensive country houses, but the detail work is still remarkable. Anything less kills him, and he loses interest in the project.” “His dedication to the projects he loves is unbelievable. My builder vanished from the job site a week before a big party. Keith took paintbrush in hand for six straight days.” “He is the definition of fun. I am sad it is over.” “He doesn’t even know how much anything costs—he goes by aesthetics alone.” “He is not a small potatoes kind of guy. Big projects, big clients are his forte.” “My curtains are nicer than any of my couture clothing.” “He does not like to talk about money, but all the proposals and bills are clear.” “I absolutely trust and adore him beyond measure.”
