FR Review:
This "architect to the rich and famous" designs and decorates retail and residential spaces for some of the most prestigious names in New York and the world, including Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Giorgio Armani, Barneys and Christian Dior. There is a very consistent look that positively proclaims the pinnacle of opulent luxury—creme furnishings and walls are highlighted with touches of charismatic black and white (often in the form of multi-million dollar modern art) and extravagant polished marble.

Peter Marino's comprehensive approach encompasses designing furniture, lamps and rugs for interiors, as well as advising on art collections for residential clients. Reductive in style and taste, Marino's work is described as "handsome yet provocative" but not too modernist. Over-the-top products and materials are an integral part of his design approach. He designed one recent apartment around a developing art collection; works by Willem de Kooning and Andy Warhol peacefully coexist with 18th-century chairs and Coromandel screens.

With 80 architects and 25 interior designers (140+ total) on staff and offices in New York, East Hampton, Philadelphia and Santa Barbara, Marino's is certainly one of the larger firms. Marino graduated Cornell and worked for Skidmore Owings & Merrill and I.M. Pei before founding his firm in 1978. Recent residential projects have included a suite at the Pierre and designs for Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Bernard Arnault and the Aga Khan. His first client was Andy Warhol, whom Marino sites as a major influence, along with Jean-Michel Frank. Clients like the cutting-edge feel of the firm's design work, and though some believe Marino's reputation may outstrip his achievements by just a notch, the majority feels that the elegant classicism of his work is "as good as it gets." AIA Fellow 2006. AD 100, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014. ID Hall of Fame.
