As the creative force behind Fox-Nahem, Joe Nahem oversees the firm's striking and elegant interior compositions with a confident hand. Fox-Nahem is acclaimed for a wide range of looks, from traditionally based townhouses to Americana farmhouses to more tailored, even minimalist beach houses, all with a dash of elan. Fox-Nahem's designers are regarded as first-class professionals who work collaboratively with clients as well as architects. With an architect on staff, the firm is also adept at creating spaces that are in balance with-- and sensitive to-- the architectural perspective.
This firm of five, founded in 1980 by Nahem and the late Tom Fox, takes on eight to fifteen projects annually. Nahem, who graduated from Parsons New York and Paris, is actively involved in each project, down to the selection of the linen, and china. Clients tend to come with an open outlook and a healthy budget. Most of the work is high-end residential, with a booming business in Long Island's fashionable East End, where Nahem keeps a second home and satellite office.
A typical living room is in the $350,000+ realm. Standard design fees are taken up-front, with reasonable product markups. Clients say the firm is wonderful about switching out any furnishing that doesn't strike a chord, and highly recommend it to friends.
