FR Review:
Known to some as an intellectual purist and others as master of the ultimate integrated modernist experience (and both to many), Thad Hayes continues to hone his unique approach. Using discrete elements of classic mid-20th-century furniture, fine art and sculptural compositions, there is a softened edge that seamlessly flows from room to room. Calm backgrounds, spare and serene furnishings, intimate settings and warm neutral colors maintain restraint and create elegance. Often he will maximize the space in New York apartments with a good deal of high-caliber, built-in furniture embellished with clean, wood-toned trims.

Clients are often art collectors, the young establishment seeking the new classic style or modernists in search of the very best quality. Though Hayes is in high demand, he aims to please every client. He is described by customers as a warm and engaging man who is helpful until the end. Many applaud his drawings, including several architects of great note. Clients say he often will completely transform the character of their living space, including the artwork. Born in Louisiana with a modernist heart, he began his career with Robert Bray and Mike Schaible, and then started his own firm in 1985. High profile projects include a Palm Beach house for the Lauders, and Marc Jacobs' Manhattan townhouse.

Considered expensive but very fair, the lowest project cost is around $750,000 and can easily go into the millions. He is highly recommended for clients that share his essentialist, modernistic vision. AD 100, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018.

Representative Client Comments:
"Historic provenance meets the machine age." "The minute that I saw his work I knew that I wanted to live in it, and I was right." "He completely revitalized the utility and atmosphere of our apartment." "A forward-looking modernist with warmth." "Thad is very concerned that every welt and every hem are exactly correct." "Thad is philosophically devoted to the aesthetic melding of disparate notions that meld exquisitely in his hands. But you have to be on that program." "The amount of thinking that goes into each design is staggering, especially given the minimalist outcome." "He is perfectly suited to his line of work--very disciplined yet a delight to be with."
