FR Review:
Marshall Watson has a strong group of clients who are consistently pleased with his classically elegant interiors, which often find inspiration in historical sources. He employs soft flowing fabrics, stately yet comfortable seating areas, and a welcoming palette of warm colors. Customers say Watson is a very engaging man who tries to please by matching his designs to their lifestyles and interests. Younger clients on a budget-- as well as more established patrons with very substantial projects-- give the firm high marks.

Watson originally studied set design at Stanford University and currently has his own line of furniture produced by Lewis Mittman. There are seven in staff at the firm, including four senior designers. Resources applaud him for his dedicated philanthropic work, particularly in the area of the design arts.

The New York-based Watson's clients reside mainly in Manhattan and the Midwest, with others in the Hamptons, Nantucket, London, and Spain. Recent projects include a large Adirondacks-style vacation retreat in Missouri and a substantial Italianate home in Medham, NJ. While some sources feel Watson's follow-up could be a bit better, most find him to be highly effective-- fair, honorable and helpful to the end. Watson's up-front design fee and product and oversight fees are very reasonable, and he will find unusual and interesting pieces to fit a budget. Project costs vary greatly, from $100,000 to $2 million. The firm is highly recommended for the beauty and comfort of each design.

Representative Client Comments:
"He has the warmth of a Midwesterner and the sophisticated design sensibility of a New Yorker." "He quickly understood what we wanted and became part of our family." "He designs for the real world, not for Architectural Digest photo shoots. There is a good reading light near every sofa." "Quality designs for real people." "Many a Goldman partner has commented that we have the most stunning dining room he has ever seen." "He speaks with authority. The real deal." "He'll take pains to make sure it's right the first time, but it's difficult to get in touch with him directly after the job is done." "He does it all - designing, teaching, philanthropy. He's very plugged in, very busy, and very knowledgable." "He has excellent ideas but does not take himself too seriously." "As we gutted our big, old house, he carefully instructed the contractors to place every AC duct and every light switch correctly." "He delivers great quality without killing you on the budget." "I am very fussy and we take great pride in his work." "He listened well and delivered. A+."
