FR Review:
One of New York’s most prominent retailers, appraisers and restorers of fine antique, semi-antique and contemporary rugs, Safavieh Carpets has been serving affluent clients since it was founded in 1914 by Hamil Yaraghi. Now managed by his grandson Arash, the fi rm continues to provide the same top-notch service to its discriminating modern-day clientele. Safavieh’s wide selection of rugs includes Orientals, Aubussons, Persian, Pakistani, Indian and Tibetan, plus tapestries and needlepoints. With three showrooms located in Manhattan–one of them exclusively open to the trade–Safavieh also maintains seven more locations around Long Island, Connecticut, Westchester and New Jersey.

Safavieh takes pride in its restoration department, where workmen meticulously do all the work by hand, using the same method that the original weaver used. The fi rm also does some restoration and conservation for museums. Thework is outstanding but so is the price, clients say.

Representative Client Comments:
“Fabulous. Wouldn’t think of going to anyone else.” “Meticulous and thorough.” “Truly expensive... I wouldn’t use them for routine work, but I give these guys credit for saving the rug.”

Bottom Line:
Insanely expensive, but they did save my heirloom rug from the cats.

Project Description & Comments:
I have a wonderful $100,000 Oriental Rug that unfortunately my cats thought was wonderful too. I give these guys credit for saving the rug. However, I thought that the price of the cleaning was truly ridiculous at about $5,000. I might use them again, but only if I run out of any other options.

There are still some dye run marks between the colors, but I do not hold them responsible for that...

Never, ever use for routine rugs or work.
        Cost of Project: $1,001 - 10,000
