FR Review:
An internationally renowned firm, Cicognani Kalla is a mid-size practice known for high quality work and a highly collaborative attitude. Working both in rural and urban settings, the firm is versatile in its range of abilities, seeking client input. From a new, jewel-like country home in the Hamptons to a classical gut renovation on Park Avenue, sources tell us Cicognani Kalla will take on projects of all sizes—providing they prove to be an interesting challenge. In all cases, clients tell us the end results are successful and "rich, yet comfortable."
We hear the firm likes to have a hand in the creation of all aspects of a particular space, including the design of pools, gardens and interiors. In addition to residential projects, the firm has designed art galleries, offices and restaurants. In 1994, they completed the Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. Described by references as enthusiastic and intelligent, Ann Kalla was educated at Carnegie Mellon and Columbia University. Awarded an AIA medal in 1980, Kalla held an assistant professorship at Columbia for three years and worked on several invitational international competition projects. In 1985, Kalla and Pietro Cicognani, also educated at Columbia, spent several years after graduation on commercial and institutional projects around the globe.
The firm's clients are some of the most discriminating business people and philanthropists in New York. About 85% of the work is residential. Recent projects have been completed on Park, Fifth and Central Park West, as well as in Southampton, Millbrook, Hobe Sound, Beaverkill and Italy. Pricing is at the level one should expect for outstanding work with standard percentages of construction or hourly fees.
