FR Review:
Known for his unique perspective, Geoffrey Bradfield brings opulence, quality and verve to his projects. He often bases his designs on 30s glamour with a contemporary tilt, highlighted with antiques and objects from different centuries and continents. Art collectors often become clients, and clients often become art collectors, owing to Bradfield’s passion for and knowledge of contemporary art. Clients say that he is particularly adept at designing a room around a single masterpiece.
After working with McMillen for a brief period, Bradfield joined the late Jay Spectre in 1978 to pursue a more contemporary style. Recent years have found his firm taking on a substantial number of projects in Japan and China, some of quite notable size; he is the first prominent American designer to publish a monograph of his work in Chinese. However, roughly half of his work is still in the states, including a number of apartments on Central Park West and Park Avenue. Clients appreciate his responsiveness, and say that Bradfield makes it very easy to have a long-distance relationship.
The firm charges a standard upfront design fee, standard product markups and hourly rates only for hours where no commission is otherwise received. Bradfield tends to work with only the highest-quality materials, including elegant silks and sateens. Living rooms tend to be well over $200,000. While many enjoy Bradfield’s fulsome personality, others say that he can be a bit overwhelming. Overall, clients roundly praise Bradfield for his attention to detail, resourcefulness and style. ASID.
