FR Review:
Catskill’s got skills, according to the loyal fans who praise Robert Allen’s “excellent craftsmanship” and “attention to detail.” Allen is reputed to have a pleasant personality and a talent for solving millwork problems. Trade insiders maintain an ongoing relationship with Catskill Fine Woodworking, which they say offers high quality with relatively quick turnaround times. Sources note that Catskill works primarily with architects and contractors, not directly with the client.
The firm was established in 1991 by Robert Allen, a self-taught woodworker. With twenty employees, the firm works with all types of wood and exotics, and fabricates all types of custom woodwork in their 40,000-square-foot workshop. Catskill produces doors, moldings, cabinets, wall units, vanities, pool tables and trims, while installation is subcontracted. Average projects run the gamut from $50,000-$1,000,000 with individual pieces ranging from $15,000-$100,000. The firm’s commissions are mainly in Manhattan, with some in Connecticut and Long Island. Catskill has been featured in Architectural Digest.
Representative Client Comments:
“Not every millworker is ready to throw himself into the job when the contractor is ready. Bob is always ready with the ultimate solution.” “Excellent people, excellent work.”
