FR Review:
With an attentive, full-service, smaller firm, Edward Ira Schachner very much enjoys working with clients to create contemporary yet traditional spaces that are typically "painterly" and "European" in nature. Rooms look like they have evolved over time, and are usually muted in color, with "nothing being too perfect."
The firm is a one-stop architecture and interior design shop that listens to its clients and delivers an individual product, right down to "choosing the bedding and deciding where to hang the pictures." Canadian born and educated, Schachner moved to New York in 1980. He worked with industry icons Peter Marino, Shelton Mindel, and Thierry Despont before founding his firm in 1991. There are just three on staff and the firm limits its workload to about eight new projects each year, most of which are high-end renovations in Manhattan. The firm concentrates solely on residential work and budgets starting at $250,000 and topping out at $2 million.
In addition to working in the city, Schachner also works in the Hamptons, and has finished projects in France, Israel, and Canada. The firm charges standard fees based on a percentage of overall construction costs.
