FR Review:
With outstanding client service as a fundamental axiom, principals Kenneth Alpert and Andrew Petronio take a sincere, focused, and personalized approach to each project. While originally known for a traditional look, the firm has proven its fluency in a variety of styles–Art Deco, minimalism, transitional, formal French among them. Regardless of genre, the firm creates comfortable designs imbued with luxurious detail. As a rule, their projects are “capital I Impressive”–full scale symphonies of custom furniture, blue chip art, fine fabrics and a little gilding here and there.

Alpert, an industry lifer, was taking night classes at the NYSID while working in the D&D Building when he founded his first design firm in 1974. His business acumen (Alpert has a degree from Wharton and an MBA from NYU) guides the firm’s work as much as his muse. Petronio, who holds degrees from Fordham and FIT, started as a design associate and quickly became a partner (the firm was renamed as KA in 2001). Inspired by extensive travels, he is an agile stylist who seeks to deliver on the wishes of the client in “the most mindful, tasteful way."

With eighteen on staff, about forty projects are undertaken annually, ten of which are of substantial size and scope. While there are four senior designers, all significant design decisions are made with Alpert or Petronio. Most of the firm's work takes place in Manhattan and Long Island, with additional client bases in New Jersey, Westchester, Fairfield, and Florida. References appreciate KA's formal presentations, and also comment on their excellent budget layouts and refined professionalism. Clients express equal confidence in the back office. The firm charges a standard design fee and classic retail on product, with a typical living room baselining at about $200,000. Clients say Alpert and Petronio "are not budget designers," but they are not impractical either. Also if there is ever an issue, the team is known to fix it "faster than you can blink."
