FR Review:
The partnership of Kathryn Ogawa and Gilles Depardon creates clean modern architecture and interior design with what clients call "unlimited imagination and creativity." What differentiates Ogawa/Depardon from the pack, we're told, is a marked sensitivity to clients' needs. Described as attentive and talented, the principals are considered true advocates for their patrons. Aesthetically, there is usually an outline of traditional wood and/or stone against which poignant walls of glass and modern interior surfaces are poignantly juxtaposed. Their goal is simple yet refined architecture that is easily understood.
The partnership was formed in 1987. Ogawa was raised in LA, educated at USC, and previously practiced in LA, Rome, and at I.M. Pei in New York. Depardon was born in France, educated at Harvard and practiced in Paris, Rome and at Skidmore, Owings in New York. We hear both are extremely thorough at preparing drawings and dedicated to high-quality materials and construction without cutting any corners. The partners are also known for having "really good people" working for them. The firm concentrates much of its energy on townhouses (25 in the New York area), apartments and single-family houses across Manhattan, Brooklyn, upstate New York and Connecticut. It also does residential work in San Francisco and Malibu, international and area second homes and is respected for its commercial work.
Fees are based hourly with a cap percentage of construction, which accrues to a figure within the standard range.
