FR Review:
Sought out as one of the rare firms that is highly sympathetic to the client's needs, fears, and overall input, Curtis + Ginsberg has earned a reputation for being "the kind of architect that most people want, but can't find." Described as "easygoing" and "grounded," Darby Curtis and Mark Ginsberg are said to create spaces that closely follow their clients' vision. About 50% of the work is residential, including modern additions, renovations, and combinations of apartments and multi-family houses in all five boroughs, though more often in TriBeCa and the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Clients say that the firm creates design solutions that are extremely pleasing to the eye, yet practical for modern living. The company is also described as flexible, practical, and respectful of budget limitations and time constraints. Curtis + Ginsberg is equally willing to do interiors or architecture. Generally taking on larger projects, the firm will not hesitate to take on those of smaller scale ($750K+), which are of exceptional design interest. Known for taking the time to "walk" clients through the entire process, much repeat business is developed from the high level of customer service.

This firm of 24 has been in business since 1990, with principals Curtis and Ginsberg personally overseeing each project. Curtis holds a degree from Columbia and Ginsberg graduated from Penn. Exemplary projects include a townhouse renovation, an addition for a music production studio, a penthouse apartment, and a classic Upper West Side apartment. Curtis + Ginsberg has received kudos from the press for designing the first apartment building to use photovoltaic power on the roof and for completing several LEED certified projects. The firm charges an hourly fee not to exceed a standard percentage of total construction costs.

Representative Client Comments:
"They are absolutely delightful and get the job done." "A rare case of high-quality and integrity." "They came up with extremely creative solutions for our office renovations that met our rather tight budget constraints." "I do not have a ton of discretionary income, and they really held the cost down." "At my request, they worked with a builder of less quality than they would normally deal with, and did that with grace and ease." "Incredibly hassle free." "Never a cluttered or fussy result." "Darby came to the old apartment and we spent lots of time discussing what we liked and did not." "Available whenever needed." "I wouldn't think twice about hiring the firm again." "Darby's recommendations were great. She led the team and was very responsive and patient with us."
