Liberty Moving is a large firm with a solid crew for local moves and a partnership with United Van Lines for smooth long-distance relocations. Founded in 1939 on Liberty Avenue in the Bronx (hence the name), the firm has grown steadily over the years to its current, considerable size. It boasts a staff of over 75 movers spread out over multiple locations, covering all of New York as well as the Hamptons and Westchester. Liberty gets good marks from clients for its no-nonsense household moves—additionally, the firm has a “white-glove team” for more specialized valuables. For long distance moves, Liberty taps into the United network. With over 1,000 agents spread out over all 50 states, complicated multi-state jobs become routine.
Principal Anthony Federico—a grandson of Liberty’s founder—maintains quality control with background checks on all employees and personal involvement in bigger projects, including many for interior designers. He is also eager to invest in new technology, creating inventory systems to ensure that not one fork is lost in a big move. Big moves, in fact, are a particular specialty. Liberty has a four-hour minimum charge for local work and a marginal packing cost. Sources report that the size of the company means you probably won’t become best friends with your mover, but they praise the solid, dependable service at a very reasonable rate.
