FR Review:
Awash in charm and elegance, Bunny Williams’ rooms enchant clients with a cohesiveness that speaks unpretentiously to a genteel past—and current com- fort. Clients report that Williams can expertly execute a range of styles, but that she gravitates toward a refined, welcoming English sensibility, awakened with fresh, modern finishes and unusual pieces of character. An 18th-century English chest might be crowned with a 1950s mirror; a French Moderne desk flanked by Regency chairs. Combining this bespoke approach with her extraordinary professionalism, talent and energy, Williams has attained near-cult status in the decorating community.

Raised in Albemarle County, Virginia (home to Nancy Lancaster), Williams carries on the craft of gracious Southern living. Trained at the venerable Parish-Hadley Interiors, she opened her namesake firm in 1988. The firm has two integrated design teams, each headed by a senior design associate. Williams is said to travel extensively, but she continues to be the design inspiration behind each creation.

Most projects are quite substantial, ranging from a classic Cape Cod-style compound on the Connecticut side of the Sound to Manhattan penthouses to large homes in California, Palm Beach, Atlanta, Maine, Texas and the south of France. Clients attest to Williams’ “ladylike nature” and her ability to “do it all,” saying that she is a woman of her word. Reflecting her status and expertise, prices are reportedly extraordinarily high, charged as a markup on product. She can, however, “rein it in for smaller projects.” Williams is the author of several books, including a treatise on garden style, a monograph of her own work and An Affair With a House, a detailed look at her Connecticut retreat.. HB Top Designers, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. ID Hall of Fame. KB 1990, 1998. AD100 2012, 2014.

Representative Client Comments:
“You tell her how much you want to spend, and she develops a design plan very quickly.” “We hired Bunny for a relatively modest project and she totally got it.” “Much less chintz than you would expect. Bunny is developing a real fondness for simplicity of line.” “There is a complete understanding inside and out. She interweaves the mood and the design.” “Bunny treats design like a cottage industry—she has an amazing array of specialists at hand that she can dispense at a moment’s notice.” “Enormous design vocabulary.” “The staff is a bit stretched given the substantial client base, but always wonderful.” “Doesn’t take anything she doesn’t really want to do.” “We have meetings every three weeks, and she is always very prepared.” “Bunny even showed us how to make the beds in the correct manner.” “Bunny will always take your phone calls but she now wants to have a bit more of a personal life, understandably.” “She is dazzling in a quiet kind of way.”
