FR Review:
J. Pocker has a very high-end reputation. This framing company has been family owned and operated since 1926, handed down from parent to child. The company offers up hundreds of unique stylistic choices, from the basic (classic vs. modern) to the archaic (Black Dutch vs. Stanford White) all of which can be custom colored and finished. The shop also offers commercial choices starting at $15-20 a linear foot, which are 1/5th the cost of their hand-molded and gold-leafed varieties. These interesting options may be debated in a compact and unassuming shop on 63rd street. It generally takes 4-6 weeks for your masterpiece to reappear.

If you feel like you want investment framing that can not be found elsewhere due to unique styles, go forth. However, Franklin Report users warn that you must demand a salesperson that has been there a very long time, and definitely do not accept the assistance of a part-timer or disaster may ensue. Prices are quite high, but sources say trade discounts, long-term relationships, and generally good service have kept clients coming for three generations.

Representative Client Comments:
"Hard to think of a higher-quality frame shop. Also hard to think of a more expensive one." "While it can be difficult to catch the attention of some of the long time staff, it is imperative that you work with them and not the younger salespeople." "Not at all snobby, and I was interested in only the lower priced items." "Been around for a long time, and there's a reason for that." "Frames that are not offered anywhere else."

Bottom Line:
Never ever trust anyone there that has not been around for eons. Then, it's is probably ok, but still quite expensive.

Project Description & Comments:
If you fall in love with one of their frames, make sure that you have an expert work with you. Not a young, part-timer. Presumably, this is unusual, but I am still so angry I can not get over it years later-- Pocker threw away my 60 year old matting of a family heirloom that was intricately painted by an artist in the 1940s. I was truly beside myself. I unquestionably and clearly told the young woman to add extra matting around the edging of the existing matting that was a bit damaged. NOT to throw away the matting that had existed in my family's front hall for two generations. And to boot, they denied that I had requested that order as it was not (obviously) on the order slip. When I demanded to speak to the original salesperson, they said they did not know how to find her, as she was only temporary help. While they did offer to give me a free new mat, that was only a bone. I will never, ever go in there again and I warn my friends away.

Project Description & Comments:
Following the advice of my decorator friend, I was delighted to find this company as they have so many unique frames that really add that polished look to a home. It is also so creatively interesting to consider all the possibilities-- you can even go in with a paint chip and they will match the color with a wide array of different hand-painted finishes. Not inexpensive, but not over the top either. Totally added sparkle to the room. For use with special pieces, not the basics.

Project Description & Comments:
I have been using J. Pocker since 1990, for framing and restoration in connection with the preservation and presentation of the antique posters I collect, and have been working with Leba at the Bronxville location (and the White Plains location before that).

I consider Pocker to be the absolute tops in their field. The materials that they use and the craftsmanship of their staff are truly tops, both for framing and for restoraction and preservation.

Leba has a truly gifted sense of what frames and materials will work with the various pieces in my collection and how to select the right frame and presentation for the particular piece and its setting.

Leba and Pocker provide great customer service and assistance year in and year out. Truly a trusted advisor.

J. Pocker

Our relationship with J. Pocker began 30 years ago with our commission to furnish an entire floor
of 299 Park Avenue with art and framing. Robyn would work with our office after hours which made
us feel like royalty. Every job since then has been handled with imagination, special care and follow thru.

They have been able to deliver and install locally and also ship to out of town jobs.
