FR Review:
With artistic flourish, architectural support, and stylistic detail, J.P. Molyneux is known for his insistence on the very best quality. Clients say he has brilliant vision and can shape a room with just one look. Molyneux's many enthusiastic clients extol his "stunning" taste and exquisite design skills. Many creations are an ingenious amalgam of fantasy and opulence, combined with the comfort and richness of neoclassical traditions. Grand entryways are said to be important to Molyneux's strategic thinking, and often reach a level of splendor "beyond the imagination." A good example of the designer's palatial creativity is his glorious commission of the Palace of Treaties outside St. Petersburg for the Russian government.
Born in Chile, educated in modernist architecture in Santiago and in classical design at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Molyneux is a man of many continents and influences. After working in Santiago and Buenos Aires, he settled in New York in 1987, with satellite offices in Paris and St. Petersburg. Commissions include many impressive Park and Fifth Avenue apartments and sumptuous homes in Hobe Sound, Lyford Cay, Palm Beach, and other major vacation spots. Most of his satisfied clients do not need to think about budget and do not become overly involved in the design process. The results, they say, are spectacular, and can be seen in the Rizzoli monograph of his work published in 1997. Clients also remark that he is most accommodating, offering helpful advice years after project completion.
His strong vision can overwhelm, as when he chooses and delivers furniture or a rug to a client without much discussion. While this is a blessing to some, others find it difficult to say no to Molyneux, and find it hard to resolve any design issues. All clients lavishly praise Molyneux's talent, charming personality and the quality of the end results, but some characterize the design process as exhausting.
