FR Review:
First established in 1985 as an architectural firm, Chicago Workshop Architects incorporated construction management into its operation three years later. As a result, it provides complete design/build capabilities for high-end new residential construction "whole homes or significant additions" along the North Shore. Projects range from $250,000-additions to houses at the six-million-dollar level. Chicago Workshop builds only what it draws.
All projects are designed in collaboration with clients, then supervised and managed by brothers Hernando Moreno, a certified architect, and Alfredo Moreno, a civil engineer. We're told that their professionalism and multi-disciplined approach to projects adds to the service and value clients enjoy from this firm, beginning with design and continuing through construction to final follow-up. Each home is one of a kind.
For an initial fixed fee, Chicago Workshop follows AIA (American Institute of Architects) guidelines in drawing up an agreement covering beginning specifications and budget. Once the scope of the project is finalized, the company lets work out to competitive bidding by qualified subcontractors. Bids are evaluated and negotiated by clients in consultation with Chicago Workshop, which then acts as general contractor.
