Klaus Schmechtig and his wife, Gabriele, both arrived from their native Germany with extensive backgrounds in landscaping to set up shop here in 1960. At its heart is a 40-acre nursery with a broad selection of trees, shrubs and flowering perennials. Because plants are grown locally, customers say the plants have an excellent survival rate and are also in tune with the area's growing season. One customer tells us that every Klaus Schmechtig plant that has been set in the family's landscape over the past 30 years is still healthy and thriving.
High quality landscape design, construction and maintenance are hallmarks of Klaus Schmechtig along with a commitment to service that clients prize. Son and president Michael is now in the business along with 21 full-timers, including landscape architects, horticulturists, certified landscape and pesticide technicians, construction supervisors, plus an irrigation designer and a lighting designer. These are all in addition to the company's skilled nursery manager.
