FR Review:
Timothy Bryant designs refined, Classically influenced homes for clients who put authenticity and quality detailing at the top of their lists. Bryant, who does his initial drawings by hand, values historical accuracy and a proper sense of context, but is also an advocate for incorporating more modern interpretations (that his clients are often looking for) into his designs. A number of recent commissions have incorporated more minimal detailing as part of creating an updated atmosphere that is still rich in traditional roots. Although Traditional projects, with robustly Classical elements, are prominently represented in his portfolio, his projects are at once fresh and timeless, often drawing upon both traditional and contemporary elements, and seamlessly blending them together to create a clean Transitional vocabulary. References report that Bryant’s homes are historically inspired down to their core, and praise his affinity for designing and producing homes of enduring quality and beauty, whether they be apartment renovations or new construction projects. Bryant frequently collaborates with top names in the interior design field, such as Victoria Hagan, all of whom admire the ability he has for integrating their vision into his finished designs.

Born and raised in England, Bryant’s father was a builder, so he grew up tirelessly accompanying him to job sites. He began his studies of both interior design and architecture in England, but chose to finish his education in the United States. Once here, he worked for world-renowned architect Thierry Despont for four years. From there he went on to an impressive array of positions, excelling at a wide range of disciplines from bespoke lighting design to extensive exceptional accomplishments for architectural icons Ferguson & Shamamian. In 1997 he founded this namesake firm, where he maintains a modest staff size of around 15 highly dedicated and focused architects, project managers and support staff. Clients and colleagues report that Bryant's multifaceted background makes him something of a polyglot: "he speaks decorator-ese, contractor-ese, lighting designer-ese, and everything you could think of. That comes in handy on the big, serious jobs."

He has completed major residential renovations and new construction throughout the Northeast, Mid-West, California, Florida and Hawaii. References indicate that Bryant is in the top tier of the market, but that his rates are a notch below most competitors. Fees are in line with industry standards, and are usually based on a percentage of the construction cost for a project. He typically won't take on whole projects with construction budgets of less than $500,000, but will work on a consultancy basis or provide just design direction, for such smaller-scale jobs on an hourly basis. Sometimes characterized as a workaholic, clients say that Bryant keeps long hours and turns around drawings promptly and attentively. Pleasant and professional, he is said to be happiest when discussing his work.

Representative Client Comments:
“My contractor, who got up at the four in the morning, said sometimes Tim would still be up working, delighted to talk to him about moldings in the middle of the night.” "Tim takes a big idea and then details it up and down. He thinks about things other architects skim over." "His houses are classically done, from top to bottom. He doesn't tweak or invent things." "The book of drawings he gave us was enormous. There were seven pages detailing the birdhouse alone." "We had ebony detailing on our doors, and Tim insisted on finding us ebony doorknobs to match. They're beautiful!" "For classical spaces, he's the best I've ever seen." "He solved any problems onsite." "Friendly and outgoing. He came to my birthday party." "Always knows how to keep the client happy, but then again, he's very good at finding clients who appreciate his vision." "This is his life's work, and he takes it seriously." "He has a great sense of appropriateness." "I'm an interior designer, and he collaborated with me on my own apartment very fluidly. There was no attitude or ego." "Tim works really well with subcontractors." "Expensive, but absolutely worth it." "Timothy is a well-kept, and well-worth-it, secret." "A fine residential architect, in the best sense."
