Known for his unique perspective, Geoffrey Bradfield brings opulence, quality and verve to his projects. While he often bases his designs on a classic modern genre, Bradfield combines antiques and objects from different centuries and continents to energize his interiors. Art collectors often become clients and clients often become art collectors, owing to Bradfield's passion and knowledge of contemporary art. Clients say he is particularly adept at designing backgrounds that make a statement, yet feature the art.
After working with McMillen for a brief period, Bradfield joined the late Jay Spectre in 1978 to pursue his more contemporary style. Recent projects include substantial apartments on the Gold Coast, grand private homes in Palm Beach, spacious Park Avenue apartments, private jets, yachts and offices with character. Chicago clients say his responsiveness makes it very easy to have a long-distance relationship.
The firm charges a standard+ upfront design fee, standard product markups and hourly rates only for hours where no commission is otherwise received (the NY system). These fees are actually lower than the normal percentage for Chicago, but Bradfield tends to work with only the highest-quality materials. While many enjoy Bradfield's fulsome personality, others say he can be a bit much. Overall, clients roundly praise Bradfield for his attention to detail, resourcefulness, accessibility and style.
