From lights made from plastic shopping bags to recycled plastic bar stools, Suhail is admired by clients for his innovative use of materials, striking visuals and unabounding imagination. Born in Pakistan, raised in London and settled in Chicago, Suhail is probably best known for his work at two of the city's most visually stimulating restaurants, the ultra modernist MOD and the Moroccan throwback Tizi Melloul. Insiders say Suhail firmly believes in creating spaces that are rooted in architecture, and have a distinct philosophy and an overall theme. His style strikes a balance between avante garde and lavish, international modernism.
Suhail is a sole practitioner who started the firm in 1992 after a brief period with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. His clients tend to be a younger group, with the majority in Chicago, and he recently expanded to the New York City area. We hear Suhail travels extensively to revitalize his creative reservoir of multi-cultural inspiration. Clients report that Suhail thinks first about the concept and design, offering several budget frameworks to fit the vision. Suhail generally charges a flat fee, but is also known to charge an hourly or monthly fee, determined on a project-by-project basis.
