FR Review:
"A legend in the field," principal Barton Myers has been creating "classic," "edgy" modern architecture since the late 1960s. Myers' firm takes on pioneering new projects and sensitive remodeling for public, private and institutional clients. Myers is known for his explorations in steel housing, incorporating steel-and-glass construction with off-the-shelf industrial components, and for creating environmentally intelligent design. There are often seamless integrations of the indoors and outdoors, with sliding walls on tracks and adjustable canvas awnings. References say the results are both interesting and elegant.
Myers received his Master of Architecture degree at the University of Pennsylvania before working with Louis I. Kahn. He began practicing architecture in Toronto and opened his mid-size Los Angeles firm in 1984. Myers holds a continuing appointment as professor of architecture at UCLA and has been a visiting professor at both Harvard and his alma mater Penn. In 1994 he received a gold medal from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and in 2002 a gold medal from the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
