FR Review:
Moore Ruble Yudell is applauded for delivering "a richness of experience" in both the form of its "humanistic" designs and in its collaborative approach. The firm's architecture is joyfully contemporary—contextually connecting the home to its site, employing the latest technologies and also enhancing "the comforting qualities of a family home." Clients tell us the practice's designs include "marvelously framed scenes that manifest themselves the moment you walk in the door," reminding them "of the wonderful feeling" of collaborating with Moore Ruble Yudell.

The firm's staff is said to communicate with patience and execute with authority. Founders John Ruble and Buzz Yudell (both Fellows of the AIA) work with a team of principals to carry on the tradition of late partner Charles Moore. We hear Moore "was quite a little Johnny Appleseed," planting numerous architectural firms across the country, with Moore Ruble Yudell his last and arguably most successful. Established in 1977, with Ruble and Yudell at the helm since 1985, the firm staffs 60. Ruble holds architecture degrees from Virginia and UCLA, while Yudell earned his from Yale. Five employees lead the interiors department, which completes about half the firm's commissions.

Moore Ruble Yudell has created homes in some of the country's most affluent neighborhoods in LA, Boston and New York City, as well as in Germany, Sweden, Australia, Japan and Turkey. Most of Moore Ruble Yudell's commissions are institutional, university, civic or urban design projects, though the firm does a select number of ground-up residences each year. These fall between 5,000 and 8,000 square feet, with higher costs per square foot and standard fees (before administration). AD100.

Representative Client Comments:
"Working with Buzz and his staff was an extraordinary experience, because all the players worked so well together." "The firm has a depth of integrity in design, process and intellectual honesty." "The house gets better as time goes on, and that's a compliment of the highest order." "While they only do a few homes at a time, they are the ‘pet projects' lavished with attention." "Metaphorically and physically they sleep on the site to get a feel for the space." "They make you feel so comfortable. Not at all pretentious." "What they gave me is a design that is both enormously humble and completely overwhelming in its beauty."
