FR Review:
Employing earthy tones and warm practicality, Christopher Grubb and his team develop urbane, textural environments that clarify the client's desires. Typically working in a modern sensibility with clean lines and subtle colors, outdoor grilles may be highlighted in African masks while bedrooms may be done in multiple patterns of gold-infused hues. Furnishings are generously proportioned and the rooms are dramatic.
Grubb is commended for his design guidance and business acumen—he offers an optional "turnkey" approach where the firm handles everything from design inception to choosing and overseeing the contractors and subs. Focusing simultaneously on residential, commercial, trade shows and retail/hospitality, the firm parlays the knowledge of one design discipline into innovative ideas for another. While Grubb has successfully undertaken many extensive ground-up projects, he is also quite willing and able to do single-room redos, and kitchen and bath renovations are a specialty.
Arch-Interiors was established in 1994 when Grubb left ArcForm Design, where he had managed multimillion-dollar Las Vegas hotel constructions and high-end residential projects. Previously, Grubb studied interior design in Milan and at the San Francisco Academy of Art, and worked on a number of commercial design projects for Bally of Switzerland, Apple Computer and Disney. We hear that his staff of seven is among the most articulate and competent in Los Angeles and now includes a landscaper. Responsible project managers supervise each job, with Grubb collaborating.
Arch-Interiors works on a standard hourly rate for up-front design and shopping, and it charges a standard product markup. The firm is said to be good about working within a budget, collaborating and keeping a realistic perspective. Clients often start small and grow with the firm in phases, as funds allow.
