FR Review:
John Barman has staked out a unique, seductive look that incorporates mid-century design icons and historical references. While others may attempt "eclectic," Barman delivers it with success. Vibrant arabesque taffeta nestles against sleek woven leather daybeds, and antique French curves converse with acrylic and Andy Warhol. Barman intensifies and enlivens. In his more discreet mode, Barman can do a toned-down version with mellower colors, still using bold accents to freshen a more traditional composition.
Barman’s firm, founded more than twenty years ago, comprises six employees, including longtime key associate Kelly Graham. Six to eight projects run concurrently, most of them larger. Barman’s budgets and status reports are “first class”–detailed, on time and very useful. Clients enjoy working with him, saying he is “serious about his craft” and will always provide a thorough and erudite explanation for his decisions. They also highlight his diligence, saying “nothing slips through the cracks.”
Barman conducts the majority of his business in Manhattan and the Hamptons, with satellite offices in Los Angeles and Miami. The firm charges standard design fees and standard markups on product.
