FR Review:
Clients consider Benjamin Clavan an invaluable guide through the creative and logistical labyrinth of design and construction. His fresh, livable take on mid-century modern features eclectic interiors that use color as an architectural quiver. We're told Clavan is equally adept working with small or awkward sites in dense neighborhoods or on large multi-acre estates. And as a past member of the Planning and Public Facilities commissions in West Hollywood, and former Chair, Land Use Planning Committee of the Mid-City West Community Council (Los Angeles), Clavan is an ace at navigating complicated permitting, zoning and entitlement issues on the Westside.
Clavan started his small firm in 1982 and holds an undergraduate architecture degree from Virginia, as well as a Master's Degree and a PhD in architecture from UC Berkeley. We hear Clavan goes "way beyond the call of duty" in dealing with clients and managing contractors. He is also known to design the interiors for most of his projects.
Clavan splits his time between LA and the Comunidad Valenciana, Spain. His residential work includes new home construction, to-the-studs renovations, and the restoration of architecturally significant homes with floor plans from 1,200 to 5,000-plus square feet. With costs per square foot occasionally dipping below $300, Clavan's firm offers options more modest than standard. He is always looking for new challenges and clients with specific or special visions.
Representative Client Comments:
"If I wanted to do something he would elaborate options that inevitably offered better flow or access. He has very good spatial awareness." "We've not only enjoyed working with him, but have been very impressed with how quickly he was able to incorporate our specific needs and desires into a beautiful, interesting and practical design." "He really stretched our budget. Took every penny we put in and doubled our investment." "Benjamin was very skilled at managing his way through our intricate community design restrictions and requirements."
