FR Review:
Pushing the proverbial envelope, Patrick Tighe takes a hands-on approach, creating innovative, abstract, geometric architecture with a sustainable edge. While exteriors are starkly bold in form and in spirit, the designs are rich through the use of natural materials, particularly wood. Clients effuse about working with Tighe, who is roundly described as modest, extraordinarily nice and fun.
Tighe earned a BA in fine arts from U-Mass and an MA from UCLA. He was affiliated with Morphosis for seven years, an influence that clearly informed his work, and founded his own firm in 2000. In less than two years, the firm received AIA national and LA awards, and in the short life of the firm, there have already been six repeat clients—always a good sign.
Tighe has a passion for residential work, which constitutes about 75 percent of the commissions. There are five in the office taking on about six projects at a time. The firm is known for its interest and sensitivity with smaller homes, with an average ground-up footprint of 2,500 square feet. The cost per square foot is relatively modest for the quality of the work at $250 to $300. Fees come in at a standard percentage of construction.
Representative Client Comments:
"Patrick was always available and worked in a very organized way." "My only complaint is that the closets are too small." "An excellent listener, definitely not an egomaniac." "There is an incredible understanding of the client's interests." "The house is really quite spiritual in a very contemporary way." "Far exceeded my expectations." "In the realm of Frank Gehry, Patrick is a visionary." "An undiscovered gem."
