FR Review:
Maureen Wilson Footer's work is guided by warmth, color, and a playful intellect. She is equally comfortable executing witty historical references (one showhouse bedroom featured Proust's legendary cork-lined walls) and touching details, such as Robert McCloskey prints in the children's rooms of a literary family's Manhattan apartment. Footer's love of antique furniture means that many of her interiors end up with a historical flavor, though the effect is never overwhelming. Indeed, when these items are paired with contemporary fabrics and cheery color schemes, she unquestionably earns the title "modern classicist."

Footer has a multifaceted educational background, with an M.B.A. from Columbia, time spent in the interior design program at FIT, and graduate studies in 18th century French interiors at the École du Louvre. Her experiences in Paris continue to inform her work today, which is often complemented by French accents. After working at Molyneux, McMillen Inc. and founding the interior design department at an architectural firm, she started her own firm in 1998.

Recently, Footer published a book with Rizzoli on George Stacey ("George Stacey and the Creation of American Chic") an interior designer of the 1930s who blended French influence with American style (naturally a festive subject for a Francophile). Design-wise, projects have included everything from Park Avenue palaces to new construction in San Francisco. Prices tend to be on the higher end of the scale, reflecting Footer's appreciation for fine antiques and quality materials. Clients report that she is warm, enthusiastic, intelligent, and that though she can get “carried away with the details,” her work is "impeccable."

Representative Client Comments:
"I would not go to anyone else for my next projects. Maureen Footer over-delivers on style and quality; is always on time and on budget; and is a pleasure to work with." "We bought a pre-war co-op that hadn't been touched in 25 years. Maureen made it elegant in a period-sensitive but fresh way." "There were no monetary/contract issues. Maureen Footer abides by the contract." "She did an excellent job in designing our New York apartment in the spirit of France." "Fun, feminine, and French." "She sweats the details. Sometimes it can make things more expensive, but the result is great." "Our building has very strict renovation rules, and she worked through them masterfully." "Our project involved everything--furniture layout, kitchen cabinetry, bathrooms, room flow, lighting, and finishes. The quality of her work is outstanding, and I would highly recommend working with Ms. Footer to others."
